Urban Fox Launches Community-Focused EV Charging Network in Kent

Urban Fox officially launched its landmark Kent programme by showcasing CITA EV Charger’s newly introduced Dual EcoPillar at the council event – a proud and defining moment in this milestone partnership. Being selected by our UK partner Urban Fox for the official launch highlights the confidence placed in CITA’s technology to support one of the UK’s largest on-street EV charging rollouts.

Kent is set to significantly expand its public EV infrastructure after Urban Fox secured a 20-year contract with Kent County Council (KCC). The program will deliver up to 10,000 new public charging sockets across residential streets, making it one of the most ambitious local authority-led EV charging initiatives in the country.

The rollout directly addresses a key barrier to EV adoption: access to convenient charging for residents without private driveways. By prioritising neighbourhood streets, the initiative ensures reliable and affordable charging within walking distance of homes. It aligns with Kent’s long-term strategy to modernise transport infrastructure and accelerate the shift toward low-carbon mobility.

A Long-Term Investment in Local EV Infrastructure

Urban Fox, a joint venture between Balfour Beatty Investments and Urban Electric Networks, brings together infrastructure expertise and innovative on-street charging design. Installations are scheduled to begin in summer 2026, initially focusing on areas with limited off-street parking.

Backed by over £12 million from the Department for Transport’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Capital Fund, alongside private investment, the program will be delivered at no additional cost to residents and without relying on council tax funding.

Community participation has already been strong, with more than 700 suggested locations submitted by residents. Urban Fox will continue working closely with KCC and local councils to ensure chargers are installed sensitively and with minimal disruption.

Supporting the UK’s EV Transition

While Kent has already installed around 200 public charge points, national targets – 80% zero-emission new car sales by 2030 and 100% by 2035 – make large-scale residential charging expansion essential.

At the official launch, CITA EV Charger’s Dual EcoPillar demonstrated how compact, standards-compliant AC charging solutions can integrate seamlessly into residential streets while supporting long-term scalability.

Together, Kent County Council and Urban Fox are setting a strong benchmark for accessible, community-first EV infrastructure – modern, reliable, and built for a future-ready Kent.
